Mati Bhadra
Sagara

A centre dedicated to the study, reflection, and practice of the
Lamrim — rooted in the living tradition transmitted by
Kyabje Dagpo Rinpoche.

Our Story

A Living Tradition
in the Heart of
Bangalore

Founded in 1991, Mati Bhadra Sagara has quietly tended the flame of the Gelug Tibetan Buddhist tradition in southern India. What began as a small gathering of sincere practitioners has grown into a dedicated centre where the depth of the Dharma is preserved through careful study and direct oral transmission.

The centre's name — meaning "Ocean of Good Intelligence" — reflects its founding aspiration: to cultivate wisdom through systematic engagement with the teachings of the Lamrim Chenmo, the stages of the path to enlightenment.

The Lamrim Lineage

The Foundation of Practice

The Lamrim — the graduated path to enlightenment — is among the most complete and systematic presentations of the Buddha's teachings. Our practice is rooted in the authentic transmission from master to student across twenty-five centuries.

Oral Transmissions

Teachings received ear-to-ear from Kyabje Dagpo Rinpoche, preserving the living warmth of a direct human connection to the tradition.

Lineage Masters

From Atisha to Je Tsongkhapa, through the Dalai Lamas and the Dagpo Rinpoche lineage — each master upheld the purity of the path.

Sangha Bond

A supportive community of practitioners who study, question, and encourage one another along the path — in Bangalore and beyond.

Scholastic Rigour

Deep engagement with the Lamrim texts, debate, and contemplation — the classical tools by which insight is cultivated and stabilised.
