About Mati Bhadra Sagara

Mati Bhadra Sagara began as the Bangalore Dharma Centre sometime in 1991 with a group of four who were to start with curious about the Buddha's dharma. Today that curiosity has turned to enthusiasm and the group has grown from four to about thirty.

The center now has two study groups which meet on Friday and Sunday evenings for an in-depth study of the Lamrim. Apart from that we also have an orientation group for people who are new or have a passing interest in Buddhism to become more familiar with the topics. You can see more details of our programs on the events page.

The centre began under the tutelage of Geshe Ngawang Jangchub and under the spiritual guidance of Dagpo Rinpoche who is the spiritual director of the centre. Occasionally we invite other teachers and monks from the Gomang monastery for teachings and poojas. Rinpoche himself has been giving teachings at Bangalore since 1996.

The main driving principle behind the centre is to sustain, revive and promote the complete Teachings of Lord Buddha — Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana — as originally taught and practiced in the great Buddhist centres of learning in Nalanda, Vikramashila and Taxila, and as later preserved, kept alive and sustained in the centres of learning and monastic traditions, both within the Buddhist centres of learning in India, Tibet and in the East.
