The Path of Knowledge

A Centre Focussed on Study, Reflection and Meditation.

Mati Bhadra Sagara is committed to rigorous intellectual engagement and internal transformation. This is not a drop-in meditation studio; it is a community of practitioners engaged in sustained, structured learning.

A Study-Oriented Dharma Centre

Dharma grows from understanding. At MBS we emphasise the three-fold path of hearing, reflection, and meditation — through careful reading, discussion, and the guidance of experienced teachers. The approach prioritises structural learning over temporary consolation.

Intellectual Foundations

Every practitioner at the centre builds a clear conceptual map of the path — understanding what the teachings say, why they say it, and how each stage relates to the whole.

Sustained Community

Long-term commitment to a study group creates the conditions for genuine transformation. We value depth of relationship over breadth of attendance.

How We Study

01 — Shravana

Hearing & Reading

Active reception of the Dharma Council's study materials, close reading of primary texts, and attendance at teachings from authorised teachers.

03 — Bhavana

Internalisation & Meditation

Integrating intellectual findings into consciousness. Meditation in this stage is analytic — it is the furnace in which the gold of understanding is refined.

Where to Begin

New to Study?

Beginners are always welcome. No prior knowledge of Buddhism is required. The Foundation series is designed to take you from the beginning of the path at your own pace.

  1. Fundamentals of Buddhism

A structured introduction to Buddhist thought, drawn from Geshe Rabten's The Mind and Its Functions — an accessible map of the Buddhist understanding of mind and reality.

  2. Mind & Mental Factors

An exploration of the Abhidharma account of mind — how the mind arises, what obstructs it, and how practice begins to reshape its habitual patterns.

  3. Advanced Lamrim

For students who have completed foundational study and are ready to engage directly with Je Tsongkhapa's Lamrim Chenmo — the apex of the Gelug path literature.

Ready to commit to your path?

The groups meet weekly. Beginners are placed in the appropriate study cohort based on a short conversation with a senior student.
